Abstract:

One of the main directions of ensuring the energy security of our country is the growth of coal industry share in the satisfaction of needs of the national economy of energy resources. To achieve this, one has to create conditions for the enhancement of industry efficiency, as well as the competitiveness of domestic coal, the decrease in negative influence on the environment, more efficient subsoil utilization, and guaranteeing safe working conditions.
The recovery of coal industry from recession can be achieved through the steady raising of coal productivity by means of active modernization of mining facilities, subsidized by private domestic and foreign investors, and optimization of management system, particular modernization of outdated mining equipment and investing in modern technologies.
By 2030 the total coal-production potential in Ukraine is expected to reach 130 million tons, including 90 million tons of power-generating coal, and with regard to the realization of brown-coal potential, it can reach 150 million tons.
For substantial increase in the annual coal production to 125 million tones, it is possible to bring into operation 67 mine units with total resources of 13,1 billion tons.
The open-cut mining of combustible shale has prospects of production of 10...20 million tons per year.
